Biological degradation of PCBS in soil. A kinetic study

چکیده
In this paper a kinetic study is made of the biodegradability of Aroclor 1242 in sandy soil employing a mixed culture of acclimatized bacteria. The assays were done in stirred tank reactors, and the biodegradation process was monitored by High Resolution Gas Chromatography (HRGC) with Electron Capture Detector. These results are supported by other indirect measurements and indicators of the existence of microbial degradation process, as well as the parameters for the control of the process. The biodegradation occurred as a first order process and it proved most effective in respect of dechlorinated (100% removal), followed by trichlorinated (92Yo) and tetrachlorinated biphenyls (24Yo).

Improved removal of Trinitrotoluene (TNT) from contaminated soil by inducing aerobic process: kinetic and chemical byproducts
This study describes the biological degradation of TNT by using induced aeration. Three plastic reactors were used. In each reactor 3 kg of soil were used. In order to increase the porosity of the soil, sawdust was added to soil. Textile wastewater treatment plant sludge was also added to soil. TNT at the concentrations of 1000 mg/kg of soil was added thereafter. Rhamnolipid biosurfactant at th...
متن کاملAnalysis, source identification and health risk assessment of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in surface soils from different land types of northern, eastern and western parts of city of Tehran, Iran
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are a group of persistent organic pollutants that due to their characteristics including bioaccumulation potential and persistence in the environment; can pose adverse effects on human and environmental health. Therefore, this study was performed to analysis, source identification and health risk assessment of PCBs in surface soil samples collected from some lan...

Background and Objective: Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are toxic, persistent, bio-accumulate and pose a risk of causing adverse effects on human health and to the environment. PCB compounds exert varios impacts on human depending upon age, route of entry, intensity and frequency of exposure. This study was conducted to determine the effect of UV-C, hydrogen peroxide and solvent on the photo...

Background: Poly chlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are a class of chlorinated organic chemicals that do not easily degrade in the environment. This study was conducted to determine the effect of microwave rays, hydrogen peroxide, dioxide titanium and ethanol solvent on the degradation of PCBs. Methods: A 900w domestic MW oven with a fixed frequency of 2450 MHZ was used to provide MW irradiation. R...

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) can adversely affect human and environmental health according to long-term half-life and persistence in the environment. Therefore, this study was conducted to detect, identify, and health risk assessment of PCBs in surface soils collected from the vicinity of Arad-Kouh processing and disposal complex, Tehran, in 2020. A total of 30 surface soil samples was coll...
